The
idea of starting a business importing exotic
furniture had not even entered Dino Magnatta’s
mind while traveling through Asia in 1998.
Dino, the owner of two successful restaurants
in Toronto was on a routine tour of culinary
institutes in the Far East, studying Asian
cuisine and culture along the way. “I’ve
always believed that the best way to know
a culture is through the origins of its
food and its influences.” likes to
recall Dino, who had always been fascinated
with history, art and food of the Eastern
hemisphere.
During
this particular journey, Dino had a chance
to develop a deeper appreciation of the
art, artifacts and furniture of the region,
and began his own personal collection. It
was in this part of the world where the
concept of Kuda began to emerge. Shortly
thereafter, guided by one of Australia’s
largest and most experienced curators and
importers of Asian furniture, Dino shopped
for his first 40-foot container of Indonesian
furniture. The concept had become reality.
Dino’s
adventures to the Far East were visually
stunning. From the “magical energy”
of Bali, the “colours and chaos”
of India, to the “crowded and intricate”
streets of China, his travels led him to
develop an appreciation of Eastern cultures
and traditions to ultimately open a store
in Toronto and share the treasures he encountered.
Established
for the past five years in Toronto, just
south of Queen St. on Dufferin Ave,
Kuda is a unique reprieve from the ordinary.
With over 17,000 square feet of showroom
space, Kuda showcases hand selected treasures
from Indonesia, India, China, and Thailand.
An unparalleled selection of handcrafted
teak, mahogany, Indian rosewood, mango,
coconut palm and elm furniture makes Kuda
Canada’s premiere importer and retailer
of exotic furniture and home accessories.
Relying on design purity and authentic materials,
Kuda has successfully captured the essence
of the Far East and offers affordable furnishings
that enhance and transform any traditional
or modern settings. |
